Good general comfort

2020 Rogue Interior & Exterior - Colours & Photos | Nissan Canada

The interior modularity is smart. All the seats are easy to handle without dismantling and form a perfectly flat floor when folded down. The high perched loading sill will require some effort. In terms of comfort, apart from the sound of the engine, which is too present when accelerating, air and road noise are far from invasive. Finally, the suspension filters out road irregularities well.

Quality first

About average. Better quality plastics would not be a luxury. Only the meter cap and the upper part of the glove box are foamed. For the rest, some materials are sensitive to scratches and sound hollow. Most competitors do not do much better. Congratulations on the quality of the Bose audio system, although some had problems with the CD player, and on the lined door seals.

Mechanics, unique model

Cars, Trucks, SUVs, Electric Vehicles, Crossovers & Sedans ...

Generally speaking, there are not many choices in this category. And Nissan doesn’t bother with superfluous proposals: since February 2007, only one engine is available. Previously, the option was a 4-litre petrol V6 that convinced very few customers. Its appetite and high maintenance costs had the last word. However, with 269 hp, it offers good driving pleasure.

Equipped for off-roading

It is therefore difficult to find a petrol-powered Pathfinder on the market. In diesel, a 2.5 dCi four-cylinder with 174 hp is also the only choice. With 403 Nm of torque, it honestly powers this 2-ton machine. But it lacks character, especially below 1,800 rpm. The result is a bit of a rough start on hills and a little less fun in the city.

As for the rest, it’s flexible and pleasant to drive, but the vibrations and noise level would have deserved more care. It should also be noted that the Pathfinder’s appetite is not the least bit restricted (weight and four-wheel drive make it necessary) and increases even more when equipped with the automatic transmission, which also limits performance.

Finally, if this vehicle offers real versatility, it owes it in part to its transmission. The addition of a short gear range and a differential lock makes it possible to shift just about anywhere. A control located on the dashboard allows you to choose between four transmission modes depending on the nature of the terrain.

Reliability

It’s not all rosy. Clear on the gasoline-powered V6, very little diffusion. Despite its dCi name, specific to Renault, the diesel engine is a pure Nissan product. Very little damage has affected this block. On the other hand, the clutch suffers the consequences of the need to slightly pack up the mechanics at each start, despite a change of pedal reference. As a result, it doesn’t travel more than 100,000 km, and some of them “let go” even before that. In this case, negotiations with the manufacturer are open.
